I have what I think is a half-albino oscar, he's got red eyes but his fins have dark pigment which according to his genetics - shouldn't have, has anyone seen this before? Anyway, I'm expecting his growth rate to be insane just like my other oscar, so I can't wait to see what his colors are going to be looking like in another couple weeks.

He's not yet over 1" long either, colors were a lot darker in the store but he's only been in the tank about an hour!

I had two oscars before, one was dark and the other was identical to yours, only more orange. anyway it grew up to be perfectly normal looking albino.
heres a pic

A true albino would not have black in it. I believe what you have is referred to as a 'lutino cross'. Very nice looking Oscar, need to keep pics updated so we can see how it turns out.

Thanks!

Went on google and he really resembles some of the pictures on there, but I can't really find any pix of full grown adults...so it'll be interesting to see when he's as big as my other O. :) I'm really a nerd about genetics so when I saw this in the store I kinda freaked a bit haha

Def. gonna update with pix as he grows.

I dont get it why are you trying to find adult pictures I just showed you mine. it looked exactly the same as yours until it reached about 6" in length, it had black in the fins and some on the body.
If you look at my picture you can still see the remnants of black in his fins

^^^I didnt realize op's fish was identical to your fish. What your saying is every lutino x will turn out to be a normal albino? Anyway I bought one because he has lots of black and grey mixed with the regular albino colors.

Yeah sorry if I didn't make it clear. I originally brought my white Oscar becaise it looked half and half, identical to yours minus the pattern. My one grew up to look like an ordinary albino but with a bit of black in his fins still. He literally lost the black as he grew larger.

I saw an oscar even crazier than that one. i wish i could have bought it but it was a store than is notorious for coming up with prices on the spot. and when i asked they said $20 or so. mind u it was in the same tank as the $6 oscars. but i guess they saw it was "different" and over priced it. im curoous to see the porgress of urs as it gets older. def keep us updated. the one i saw by the way had completely black fins with gray body with the tiger stripe and red eyes. crazy.

On another notE. could the op oscar be a "blueberry" one that has outgrown the dye?
