They are in the country but I haven't seen any around for several years now. If it is a melanurum, fishbee will have to spill his source as I have been looking for quite a while now. That or tell me how much he wants.

Melanurus...melanin...means more dark pigment. And with all the black along the ventral side of the fish...

true, but ime melanarus tend to be orange bodied with a red head and quite a bit of black on the stomach/sides. They tend to not have the other rainbow of colors that synspilum can have like the blues shown in this pic. Synspilum commonly have a yellow to orange body, red head, and then black, blue and sometimes other color along the sides as well.
