Hand-fed, spoiled fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my mota is the same way. he kills anything i put with him, but will only eat from my hand. it does'nt matter how long he goes without food. on top of that he likes to soak the person feeding him, at least a pint of water at every feeding ends up on the floor in front of the tank (if you get out of the way)

Keep them from hittin the walls but not enough to locate food matter.
How did you figure that out? Take the blind cave tetras for example. How else can they survive and navigate around for food if the pigment around their eyes prevent them from looking for their food? You're underestimating the capabilites of the fish, Finalfire.;)

everyone should keep a 20g with a few blind cave fish atleast once in their life. their an extremely interesting fish to watch, considering they are totally blind. they manage to find their food, and navigate around decorations and other fish fairly easy, seemingly not hitting the walls or anything too often at all :)

oh damn....i just derailed my own thread

well he just loves your attention and time spent together! lol

I was given a nice 12" flowerhorn over the summer by someone on MFK. Thing about him is, he was apparently spoiled by his last owner. If i throw a handful of pellets into his tank, as we do with most fish, he wont touch even ONE SINGLE pellet.

I finally figured out he needs to be fed, literally, in a very specific way. i have to take one pellet at a time to the corner of the tank in my hand, and wait until he's almost vertical in the water, with his mouth at the surface to drop the food in 1 AT A TIME. this way, it takes about 5 minutes to get him to eat his usual 10 or so pellets a feeding. if i put in more than one, the second will float in the tank until i take it out.

anyone else have a fish, or seen one like this?? i almost find it funny, that like dogs, he has a specific place to eat, and wont eat anywhere else.

In for a penny in for a pound so to speak, if you buy a spoiled rotten fish, you gotta either continue with that or you and the fish take it on the road to help defray the cost of pellets  I might pay to see that, sounds like he did a good job of training his first master now you.

I have a sweerlips and he will grab anything I put in the tank. But he spits it all out and wont touch it! I bring a feeder over and he will down 4 or 5!

I once had to care for my neighbor's fishes, and one of them was mentally retarded (not trying to put down the fish, but actually clinically retarded) and had to be hand fed and kept in its own tank so it would get the food.
