State of chaos
my 2 3/4'' Mosquitofish has a nasty back injury and has trouble swimming so i handfeed her. its the only way i can get anything into her stomach. she now rushes to the glass when i walk by.
i asked my sister (Angelfish17) if she wants to watch me handfeed Bear (mosquitofish's name) and she said no. i asked why, she said it stresses them out. i said no it doesnt, but she came back with a: Putting your hands in the tank? yes it does.
i told her to shut up and go join PETA.
what really pissed me off was that i have put hours and hours and hours into researching fish, and she hasnt put in a whole hour and has never owned an animal.
so whats your opinion? handfeeding/putting hands in the tank bad???

I've never thought about it and don't see any reason that hand feeding fish would be a bad thing. There are (among others) fourteen bettas in the house that -all- have learned to follow a finger on the glass to the top of their tanks for food. I put my finger to the glass and they come over and follow my finger up as I drag it and they get fed when they reach the surface.

I've also hand fed the puffer that I previously had and he had absolutely no issues ruddering around my fingers as I held a snail for him and had him repeatedly snap at it and tear it apart.

I'm sure you'll hear from both sides. There will be people that say that a deformed / permanently injured fish should be euthanized and there will be those that say you're doing a good thing by nursing it along and giving it a chance. It's all personal preference and the only person you have to answer to regarding how you keep your fish.. is you.

she can swim and do all that stuff and if she was the only fish in the tank she would be fine. she just cant compete with her tankmate.

If putting your hands in the tank is bad then how're we supposed to clean our tanks? That's just silly. Handfeed away!

Tell her I hand feed all my fish... if she has a problem she can speak with my lawyer.:ROFL:

I have to hand feed my PJ because if I dont my bamboo shark will eat more than its share.
