Hand Feeding Gars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Funny you should start a thread on this because my girl and I took pics/video of me hand feeding my Gator Gar 2 nights ago.

Oh man... I can't post pics yet I guess, and these are good pics :(

I'll post in some other threads and then hopefully I can post the pics later today. :D

Well, I thought it was 5 posts till you can post pics, but I guess I was wrong. So I just uploaded to photobucket so you guys can see.

I usually use chopsticks which I learned from someone on here, but what I do is hang the shrimp on the inside over the plastic lip so that he can't get my fingers then when he grabs on to it I lift him up a little bit. The videos are way better and I'll post them on youtube once I get them off my girlfriends camera. :headbang2

EDIT: Not sure why the links arn't working here, But they are working when I copy and paste them to a browser

Ya, I saw your link and decided to try it myself on 12" spotted gar during a water change. Man those teeth were sharp and broke skin. Luckily no puncture wound though. You're a bad example.:grinno:

I also handfeed. Just be smart about it, don't go holding a shrimp right in front of it's mouth. Hold it very lightly and at the very end or edge, so the gar won't bite you first.

My larger Florida will let me handfeed him. He comes right to the top always.
