Hand feeding rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hand fed my motoro within a few days of getting him. They dont like sudden movements. But I do pet him on his front wing. He jerks a bit but never strikes...

ive never really done it before but i have a young flower ray who needs beefing up. so the only way to get her food with out the others eating it first is to feed her by hand.
BUT the others have now learn`d what my hand is doing in the water and my pearl rays now BITE! me and it HURTS! you wouldent believe how strong there mouths are.
they bite my fingers to get to the flowers worms.

ill do a video later and post it.

its more hassle than its worth

1. the rays become a pain at water changes thinking you have food when your hands are in the tank
2. chance of getting stung
3. rays that come to the top looking for food may climb out the tank if you leave the cover glasses open
4. ray can can poisoned if you have any rubbish on your hands
5. if you want your pets to do tricks for food buy a dog

no reason for such risks

One word: Forceps! If you owned a cobra would you hand feed it? Never forget rays are wild animals; Hand feeding leads to overconfidence on the aquarists part which then leads to carelessness which then leads to a stinger in your arm! Don't humanize them, they're just beautiful large fish!

Metal forceps from what i can see are just one big risk. If they pounce on food like that, and bite your fingers like Sharp tooth said, then you run the risk of just puncturing a hole through your ray if they pounce hard enough, which, in most adult rays, is very likely.

your just to old to get your hands wet old man.

to slow to move out the way.

stop useing girly moisturiser on your wrinkly old hands and you wont poison your water.

i got 4 dog not one will do tricks! my rays are far more intelligent!

stings hurt like hell! but it aint the end of the world lol.
