I see these videos on YouTube of ppl hand feeding/petting their FH. I was wondering is there a method to this? Has anyone done this? If so I'd like to learn how. My FH is very inquisitive and doesn't hide or run when my hand is in the tank for cleaning but I guess when he swims to my hand I get kinda scared, lol. He's only about 4-5" also.

Your fella is about the same length as mine. I've been hand feeding her and petting her since she was about 2.5'.

My cichlids hand feed. All you have to do is hold the food and wait. Be patient, if after a few minutes it's not showing interest or too scared then remove the food and come back in a few hours to try again.

My wc male gt took the longest to come around to hand feeding. It was about a month of not really trying. Others take to hand feeding within a couple weeks.
Use whatever its favorite food is.

Most healthy flowerhorn will let you pet them. The more aggressive ones will always try to attack you. The male in my profile picture was a gentle giant. I got him at 3.5 inches and he grew in to a giant at 11.0 inches. He would swim and put his head into my hand and then I could gently move my hand to his stomach and sides and he was always very relaxed as he swam and interacted with my hand. Now the Magma that I currently have at 7.5-8.0 inches is a total psycho path. He lets me touch his head and then pulls back to find a better angle to attack me. Each flowerhorn is different. If I were you I would start with a cube of frozen bloodworm and let him slowly pick apart the frozen cube. As he does this you can start to pet him. If he is a less aggressive individual this will allow him to associate you petting him with food and he will respond positively to your hand. Don't pet him at every meal as this can cause damage to their slime coat. Petting 2-4 times a week is what I always would do without any negative impact.

Thx, every time I put my hand in the water for maintenance he comes towards me. I won't lie, I be kinda scared so I move my hand

My flowerhorn is quite aggressive and territorial, I wouldn't feed him by hand, plus his teeth looks sharp ready for action lol

Lol, my guys pretty aggressive towards other fish. I put a school of clown loaches in yesterday. He chased them spermatically but other then that they seem to be getting along. As far as hand feeding I now hand feed him blood worms and he loves it. I'm gonna continue doing this 2xs a wk and hopefully move on to letting him
