Hand feeding your knife

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Both my african knife and former BGK used to readily eat frozen shrimp from my fingers. First I started off be regularly feeding market shrimp till it was their favourite food. I then started holding small pieces in my fingers really close to their hiding spots to feed them. Over time I gradually coaxing them further and further out before allowing them to grab the shrimp. Now I can just stick the tips of my fingers in the water and they swim right up the surface to hand feed - makes for a great show for guests.

my clown knife gets wayyy to excited for food to feed by hand, tried a few times much too eager, he get too damn excited, water splashes and all that, got bit once, not badly but he's got a good grip for a few seconds. I'll try to get a video if I can work up the balls again, if I get it on video I'm definitely editing out the sound.

please dont make me hahah

I bet my 13" clown knife would. He isnt shy at all if he smells shrimp in the tank. He comes right to the top and begs for food. I will try next time to hold some in the tank for him. Maybe a video later.

my BGK learned to eat from hand my watching my tire track eel and now when i put my fingers in the tank hes right there looking for food, ive been feeding him afew times a day now and he has grown an inch in only afew weeks

My 7" BGK will eat frozen bloodworms from my hand . Started with an eyedropper when he was 4-5 inches and he would take the worms from it after a couple of weeks he and one of my Angels will take the worms from my hand . A funny thing though - he always aproaches my hand in a vertical position no matter where he is coming from .

Mine used to do it, but after I started becoming more better at water changes, it doesn't seem like it likes me anymore.

My African knife is still too shy. At times it seems like Alice will be very bold and comfortable, swimming with the other fish and gobbling blood worms. Most times though she'll stay in her log until the feeding frenzy is finished. I'll drop worms, beefheart, whatever the flavor of the day is in for her about five or ten minutes after the light goes out.

That's a good idea with the baster, though. I'll have to try that.

I just got a BGK and all it does is hide for the most part.
