Has anyone out there been crazy enough to hand feed their piranhas? I have been attempting to do it but they are just scared of my hand and hide in the corner, im thinking they will eventually get used to me and start taking the food from my hand. Anyone had any success/failure stories involving this?

well i haven't but are you trying to domestic them like have them not afraid and all nice fishy stuff or do you want them to be cold-blooded killers

i did it once with a single piranha i had in a small tank.too risky with multiple specimens. also its cool with dime sized piranhas..

with what their teeth can do, I would never do it.

Not something I would be interested in and not something I think my Piranhas would do without me starving them to get resultes. My P's wont even eat fish fillets from me if I'm still standing by the tank let alone holding it :D

Mine would probably do it, heck one little sucker even went after my hand when i hadn't fed 'em for a couple of days. (my fingers were partially submerged so i think he probably thought it was food)

not something i want to encourage in my piranhas, though i might get a nasty bite.

Once Lucifer is a lot bolder, I do plan on feeding him fresh fish by hand. But i am still waiting.

I have done it in the past but I would not recommend it. Just make sure you have a big piece of meat so theyre teeth are nowhere near your hand. Good luck. remember to post pics of the chunks missing from your fingers when youre done. :D

piranhas can bite through bones, especially small thin ones like the phalanges . If you're trying this with adult specimens I would keep an igloo full of ice nearby on the offhand chance that they shoal won't pick your finger clean immediately after it's severed and you can recover it and take it to the nearest emergency room to get it reattached.
