they are all safe if you keep your finger off the trigger until your sights on on the target............many serious shooters pin the grip safety on the 1911 to prevent it from causing a malfunction with a hurried grip.

if you dont drill yourself on safety rules dont own a gun imo

im an expereinced shooter,just havnt been doing it much since my paps died 4 years ago.Kinda makes me sad but im moving on and just want to do it again,feels good.Im not a safety freak,just want to take my girl and such and dont like to worry about others too much.I was just thinking it would have been nice on the glock.Not a switch but just the grip safety.Where in LA are you?Just curious.If your close enough to eat at the farmers market at the grove then im jelouse.I love that place.

safety drilled itself into me long ago,i think i was just meaning to say as far as the safety locks,i just worry about anyone else shooting with me.

near the 10 and 405

not to sound like a preacher but for a newbe i only load one round at first etc........just to be safe and that they dont get excited and run a magazine :)

More people are killed by .22lr then anything else. 9mm is just fine and is the round to choose given your requirements cause it is cheap to shoot if you just want to plink around. For carry Id suggest Speer Gold Dots.

As an alternative (a better alternative IMO) to a glock look at Springfield Armory's XD-9. They have the grip safety like a 1911 does and also the trigger safety like a glock.

I wouldnt carry a stock 1911 of any kind for PD if you paid me! For PD simple is better!

what would you carry ??

a colt 45 is pretty basic :confused::confused:

It is not a 9mm but the CZ-52 or a TT-33 are fun guns to go out and plink with. It fires the 7.62x25 round which is rather readily available a cheap right now.

The CZ-52 ranks as the best shooting handgun IMO and is one of my all time favorites. Plus they are pretty darn sexy :)

If you can afford a 9mm you might as well upgrade to a .40 cal. They are basically a shortened 10mm cartridge and they‘re just as common as a 9mm but with more stopping power. I’m sorry, I didn’t read everyone’s posts. Are you looking for something to plink with or for home defense? In that case, I have a Ruger MKII that I LOVE to use for target shooting. But for home defense, I have a .357 and .44 Magnum that will both do the trick if I can’t get to my 12 ga in time

kinda both but i would like to go to the range alot more and not cost a fortune.I have a 45 and a 12 gauge at home now.I usualy keep hallow points in the clip at home.The 12 is a stainless pistolgrip mosberg.Just looking for an all around gun and the glock 17 feels great in my hand and my uncles got several diferent glocks,3 springfields,desert eagles and some others.I just seemed to like the 17.The colt 45 is nickel plated and in great shape though it is an older gov model.I dont want to thrash it and 45 ammo is sheeeeesh.Ill look into his 40 cal,see if i can fire some rounds.How much are 40mm ammo now.
