ppl kept interupting the memorial thread for Mr.Irwin to bash how he handled the herps,I think he probably freaked a few out pretty good but it got your atention didnt it.he did this for no othe cause than to be close and to make awareness and to teach that just lookin or being in the same field someplace with a snake didnt mean it was going to suck your brain out,he made ppl i know think twice about hacken a rattlers head off with a shovel and rescuing it instead,or moving,or just gettin the hell away.Iv kept every popular herp and bread a handfull, they can take a little roughin up,any small stressfull thing he did made a huge impact on how the world saw these creatures and God bless him for that,as someone said on the other thread,he did many other things we might not know about.:)I just started this in hopes to move negetivity from the other thread.

Hey Jason And others,

I personally thought the hands on approach was the best. People around the world needed to know that all these animals were not vicous man killing monsters. He needed to show that you need to watch out for them, not kill them. He doesnt need bashed at all. I think that when he took bob out with him in the enclosure was the best thing he could have done. This showed people that the animals are not dangerous, but you should be cautious around them. He trusted this croc so much.

Thanks,
Tyler

I think anyone who shows people whats up with the hands on approach is a brave and willing person. Steve was a wonder of the world. He was great at what he did and I am watching all his 1990's stuff right now along with the new show on animal planet as well Secrets of a Crocodile ( WATCH IT NOW!). Hands on approach is the best way to show people animals aren't man killing monsters. Crocs are nothing really of the sort. They would rather grab a Gazel than you any day just like you would rather eat a chicken than a croc right? Well he has showed people animals are just like us. I have been wondering this for many years though and maybe someone can shed some light on this. I have always wondered why Human senses basically suck and all we have is a more developed way of thinking and problem solving( Well some of us at least lol). I mean if we didn't have that we would be nothing. However a lion could have really no thinking in it's brain whats so ever but still have it's instinct to do what it takes to live. However Humans need to be taught everything constantly otherwise we can't even chew our own food. Why are we superior in nature? We shouldn't be. If you really think about it we are weak without invention. I mean yeah nature gave us the ability but that is all we have yet animals could have 10 other things that they could do 20 times better than us. Sorry mind is getting a hold of me lol. Back on topic yeah hands on is a good way for people to learn about natures gifts, but there are restrictions. Don't constantly mess with everything you see for hours at a time I mean would you want to be bothered all the time. Probably not but as long as we don't bother nature to much it is perfectly fine.

hey ppl bust my balls when i head out into left field like that:ROFL:thats what we get for havin higher brain development than lions, thanks for jumpin in:)

I've seen many great Reptile documentaries that taught wildlife awareness without ever having to handle or molest an animal to do it.

The showmanship might have made for a fun show but the handling techniques used where just irresponsible. It gives stupid people stupid ideas when you make it seem all fun and games messing with these animals.

I'm sorry but most of us who professionally work with such animals are not really among Irwins greatest fans..

I would have to agree. I think he was a great guy. But his show was for showmanship. That's why the upbeat personality/excitment/handling the way he did. Takes nothing away from him as a person but people tuned in to watch him do crazy things.

Yeah, except how popular were those documentaries? How many people did they get the point accross to? Honestly I'd rather watch one of those documentaries myself, but apparently the general public wouldn't.

Steve's handling methods may have been incorrect from an expert standpoint, but at least his show reached millions of people and had the ability to educate those people about the animals and conservation.

As far as stupid people, they will ALWAYS get stupid and dangerous ideas without someone giving them those ideas. Steve's show wasn't meant as a "How to" guide to handling or interacting with dangerous animals. It was stated on the show over and over again for people not to try that themselves. If someone tries it anyway it's at their own risk.
