That's Hemibagrus wyckioides largest recorded

wow, that was one crazy fish. reckon it can kill a man

I don't know what to think about these. Planet catfish calls them Hemibagrus wyckioides, but i have a book at home that calls them mystus nemurus which is now Hemibagrus nemurus, but that does not agree with the pics on planet catfish. And i've never heard of anyone keeping them past 24". Probably because they get so mean.

Planetcatfish is good for quick info but is not always 100% accurate. Nemurus is simply a smaller species. You could have either one, but I am not an expert in the Genus of Hemibargus. I'll go hunt around and see what else I can find.

definitely wykioides planetcatfish has them at 37.5" max, and fishbase has them at 58" max. The one pictured is the largest ever recorded. Apparently they are slow growing, but could eventually reach 3'-4' if kept properly. You guys should definitely try to keep one to adulthood and see just how big you can actually raise one. I might start on one myself.

Planet catfish and fishbase deffinately differ on information. The size, and some habits. Mystus Nemurus was used in the past to define The asian red tailed cat. Since recent discovery and classification, and additions to the mystus genus, Biologists have changed mystus to hemibagrus. There are many newly placed species in the hemibagrus order now-And some still remain in the Mystus genus.

There might be others that have changed but thats all i can find for now.

Good work guys, thats great info. My plan is definitely to grow him out to max size, no matter how big of a pond it requires! I just hope he keeps up his good behavior and doesn't go killing his mates like everyone predicts. so far so good.

My aartc went from 3" to 6" in about a month but sadly had to get rid of him :( he was beating everthing in my tank even a 13" royal clown knife
