HANDFEEDING CONVICTS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you really want to handfeed them then just start out slow, start by feeding them floating pellets and staying really close to the tank and top of the water so they get used to you being there when they reach for food, then once they are comfortable with this you can try having your hand right above the water while they eat and everything until they get comfy with that and then continue to move forward in slow steps like that, its all about conditioning, you want them to associate your hand with food and not danger

I agreee with the above, but here is the exteme way:

Starve them for a week.......After a week, hold some tubifix worms between your fingers and wait for them to come up to you........

I agree with mark377, start with some sort of frozen food such as bloodworms. Those are much more enticing than pellets.

oh and using live stuff helps as well, most fish cant resist a nice struggling cricket, grasshopper, worm etc and they focus more on the movement of the insect than your hand once they are more used to your hands being around the top of the water

i would stay away from feeder fish that you did not breed yourself as there is a very high possibility of them passing parasites on to your cichlids, i would stick with insects or frozen stuff
