I had a male halfmoon betta that I was keeping temporarily in a floating breeder mesh box in my bigger tank. Completely my fault for not securing it, but somehow during the night it got tipped/snagged underwater, opening it up to the tank. I had 5 tiger barbs at the time, and they absolutely shredded the poor betta. The next morning, he was floating on his side at the top, every single fin he had was ripped off. I thought he was dead but noticed his gills breath once every three or four seconds. I moved him into a planted 10g, and kept him inside the mesh box so he was near the surface. He lay there for about a week, not eating, barely breathing- just drifting on his side in the current.

Suddenly, one day, he was wriggling through the water (finless!), had a healthy apatite, and breathing properly! It's been about 1.5 years since, his fins are all grown back, though they're a bit shriveled and discolored, and he still wriggles weirdly when he swims. But he seems very happy, curious, and he's even mated a few times with my little red female.

Thats amazing!

...I have a firemouth that I found one day upside down and barely breathing in my 75g, his fins were a bit shredded and he was barely hanging on. He could not swim very good at all, and it was like he had a swim bladder disorder. I have no clue what happened prior to finding him like that cuz he was fine the day before. I immediately took him out and put him in a 5g bucket with little water and a heater and bubbler. 2 weeks after that had happened, he made a full recovery but ever since then he swims kinda oddly. I still cannot believe he survived through that...he is definitely a fighter

my rescued female convict...she came from a big box store..so not purposely cut
I do nothing special for her ..she beats the living day lights out of her larger male..bosses him around and is WAY faster than him..she can spin circles around him ..got her at about an inch and she is a fat 4 inches maybe 4 1/2.

I have a Fantail Goldfish that one of his eyes are completely black. Not sure if that means it's blind in that eye or not. You can't even make out a pupil. Just black round eye. It also has a swim bladder problem and once in a while it starts swimming erratically and sometimes floats at the top, either up right or upside down. But then it kicks it self back to swimming mode. As soon as I see it like that I feed the fish peas and it starts to do a bit better. Sometimes it goes days with no problem and sometimes weeks. But it always comes back. It lives with another Fantail Goldfish and 5 common goldfish. It has no problem when it comes to feeding time keeping up with the others. It gets a bit scary sometimes when it's floating but it always fixes it self. The wife gets nervous and yells at me to do something. Other then feeding it pees and maybe turning it right side up or trying to get it to move I don't think anything else I do will be of any help. This tank is well established and these fish have been together and thriving for about 2 years now.

I once had a dwarf gourami that had a curved body. It was really weird and I had to take it out of the community tank. It lived for about 3 weeks, eating but not swimming correctly and sometimes would "sleep" and then wake up and go back to it's weird swimming with the curved body. It died after quarantined for about 3 weeks. All others of mine are healthy and thriving.

If all convicts looked like her I would buy one!

I love that little convict :P shes so cute. my husband gets mad at me cause i have the tendency to purppously buy the "special" fish sometime. s. i figured if theyre active and healthy and eating and happy theyre better of with a life with me than dying at the fish store or the employess feeding them to the oscars :(

Any of you watch Dolphin Tale yet?

Amazing movie based on a true stroy. I just watched it yesterday with the family!
