Handling African Lungfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I recently purchased a nigerian spotted and was curious about handling.I understand they can survive through droughts but
#1 is it dangerous to remove the fish from the water?
#2 is it unwise to hold the fish?
#3 Also no handling related but is there any ideas on how to ensure he eats in a competitive tank?
#3 if you feed at night he will sniff it out and if you have other nocturnal eaters put large amounts of bait in I tend to put larger foods in for mine ie king prawns for lungfish as the others struggle and use normal prawn an muscle for his tank mates.

hahaha totally agree.
My 27 inch african lungfish has killed two peacocks, I alligator gar, almost killed my redtail catfish....
Now his only tankmates are an assortment of inexpensive tetras and a dozen goldfish...he eats two large shrimp per day one in morning one at night, I lose maybe three or four fish a week, but at a buck a piece who cares...survival of fittest, waiting to see how long those convicts last, put a dozen small in.

Just a question for those who still read this, would a lungfish regrow their fin leg thingies if they had been bitten of?
