My yellow anaconda is becoming very nippy. When I hold him, he curls around my fingers/hand etc and then starts biting my fore arm area. Just a bite then lets go, he has never held on. I am not scared of him, im scared of him being 5, 6, 7ft and biting with such little provoking him. What is the best way to get him out of this? Any ideas?

Cheers,
Keith

Use rubber gloves. The same kind for washing dishes. Normaly, if they can't smell you, they won't bite you, or in this case the glove. Once he is used to not bitting out with the gloves on, you will be able to take the gloves off and handle him freely. I am doing this with my olive python, so far so good. However, it can be a long road.

I can't wait to get my yellow anaconda :)

An anaconda is a tough snake to tame, i heard. By any chance is it Captive Bred? Also do you feed him mice while he is inside his cage or do you take him out and place him in a bin to feed?

I feed none of my snakes or lizards in theyre vivs. They are all put into storage boxes, ontop of my bed etc for feeding.
Yeah he's captive bred 09 mate

Im using my motorbike gloves haha then he moves further and further down to my skin lol so ive resorted to wearing a long sleeved top while doing it XD

I own a 8foot+ green anaconda since it was young and it has always been puppy tame. It's all about how much work you want to but into the animal you want to tame.

I disagree with taking the snake out of its cage to feed. Try lugging a 10 foot, 60lbs snake with a rabbit in it. One, it's a big hassle, two, the snake will probably regurgitate what it ate.

When it comes to food, I feed my snakes with tongs. When it comes to handling snakes that are large enough to cause harm, i rub them with a hook first to let them know it's not feeding time.

After they're an obvious large size ill feed within they're enclosure. I feed them at the moment to let them know through theyre lives that if my hands go into the viv it is not feeding time

Then again he's still a baby so maybe still a little skittish?....can't really help....soon experts should come and reply.
