Woofy.

So sorry. I feel I may have "convinced" you to try the more agressive approach. It is what i would have done, with your description.

Sorry we lost.

When fish are where she was at (as with any family pet) you want to do the most you can to save them. No matter what it takes. At the point she was at it couldnt have hurt to try everything possible. I really though she was recovering well until this morning. Her wound healing and scabbing over well. There must have been an underlying cause or trauma or secondary infection.

I believe a generalized infection, ( Sepcis ). Fish seem recovering, wound looks clean, but the fishes activity decreases on a daily basis, it stops at the bottom, it breathes more heavily each day.

Only possible solution is a hospital tank, dosed with whatever one decides to use. The simple partition takes away the stress and harassment caused by the others, but the water needs to be 10000% for such a wound not to infect.

You did your best. I also ( and I believe the majority ) have no hospital tank on the ready.

There was no hospital tank here big enough and with cleaner water than her current tank. The largest thing available was a 30gallon and like i said her water was cleaner and more stable in the 125.

I thought my girls wouldn't notice. But to make matters worse they kept asking whats wrong with the big fishy...i removed her and now theyre asking where the big fishy went. They keep asking, so sad and my oldest asks if we can get a new one, who knew kids notice let alone get attached to the fish we keep. :(

I find that it is not bad to have the little ones acquainted with the fact that once in a while a living thing they know and like gets to go to heaven. It is part of the growing up process, imho.
