Happy New Year. My six Clown Loaches are now 28 years old.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For what it is worth, my clowns absolutely shred the Repashy Igapo Explorer. I also feed them the Bottom Scratcher and the now and then the Spawn & Grow. Both of these are mixed about 20% with the Soilent Green. I feed a lot of frozen food such a s mysis, bloodwworm and brine shrimp.

I'm still trying to use up my remaining repashy. Do you not have an issue with it clouding the water? That is my biggest complaint about it, it seems to makes the water cloudy. I blame it on the big fish taking big bites out of it and the smaller diha not getting all the little.piecws (though I often seem them waiting downstream of the powerhead, waiting for pieces to be broken off by the clown loaches).

Unless I over feed there is never food left over and I have never had Repashy cloud my water.

One thing I do with Repashy is that I cut it into small slabs and use a long tweezers to place it all over the tank. This insures more fish get to eat it and there is less competition. I also tend to nix it at closer to 2 parts water than 3.

I have clowns of varying sizes and and scraps the big ones create the smaller ones get. The big ones move rocks to get at the smallest scrap of food. I made the mistake of using large rounded gravel as the substrate. My clowns did in it by sucking onto a piece of gravel and then tossing it aside with a flop of their head. Years back I had too many clowns and I sent a few to a friend to add to his tank. Not long after he complained to me that my clowns had taught his how to throw stones. Fortunately, the old saying about throwing stones applies to people not fish.........

Finally, I use a lot of Poret Foam in my filtration and I have really clear water in tanks, especially those with Hamburg Mattenfilters.

I just made my last batch of repashy. I just tried using less water but it still causes a bunch of fine particles to cloud the water.

Maybe it's the formula I've been using. I had the giant container of the goldfish formula as I got it on sale. I remember the bottom feeder formula kept together better but it's been like two years since I used it. I don't remember complaining about the bottom scratcher when I used it previously so maybe this formula is the issue.

I might get some more in the future but I have a huge jar of NLS algaemax wafers to use up. Super cichlids we're trying to get rid of inventory and send me a larger size than what I ordered before so I won't need bottom feeder food for awhile.

I hope you continue the annual tradition of an update on your lack of clown loaches. Seeing your posts helped renew my interest for the hobby in 2018 and I enjoy the annual updates for New years.
