and what exactly was the chemical media?

Im using Phospure plus zeolite and carbon. They have other medias you can use like a pad that absorbs the phosphates. Theres several options. Just look for one that removes phosphates and silicates.

You are not adding chemicals. Im against chemicals that kill algae. But chemical media like carbon is not the same. This is stuff that goes in your filter. Its very effective and it starves the algae. If you wanna hassle and waste your time chasing after the algae be my guest.

Brown algae is tough and not the same as the others. My tank is crystal clear and all fish are very healthy. Tap water has lots of nutrients and chemicals to begin with. Some tap water has HIGH levels of phosphates and silicates in it, so whatever you do it will keep feeding the algae because its in your water. You can try hassling the lights and cutting your feeding and doing water changes, and the algae will still be there.

ok my bad....i misread your post

scrub the glass, harder its all you can do to get rid of it man!

you wait till you get the dark green speckles, then you'll know about it.

Not sure if it's the waters or what but at my previous apartment I used to have 1/2" reddish colored algaes in one of my tank. Always thought they were pretty cool and made tank look more natural so I just left it alone.

silicates would that be same or similar to silica sand?

100 watts of lighting is a lot. I've got 40 on my 75s. Don't leave it on so long either. How large of WCs are you doing?

I just checked my lights, they're two 15 watts... lol my bad, sorry guys. I do a 25% water change once a week. I also clean the maintain the filter pads on this same day. I vacuum 50% of the gravel as well, making sure to alternate which side I do on each water change, this way I maintain a good and healthy nitrogen cycle
