Hard, Alkaline water, advice quick please!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, that would give me gas for a week in my truck tho. lol

Stop, before you go any further with altering your water.....unless it is absurdly high pH 8.2+++ I wouldnt mess with it. Discus can and will great in just about any water so long as it is clean and warm (82+). I and many others keep discus in straight tap water. Some are even having success with a pH of 8.5 and liquid rock for water. Dont worry about the water parameters so much. Just make sure the water is warm, and that you do frequent water changes. All else will be good.

1) you can use a DIY CO2 injector to lower PH.
2) If you are using an adjustable air pump I would lower the aeration on the tank a bit and that can also help lower the PH a bit.

Just some ideas that quickly came to mind that wouldn't cost a lot to do

unless your after wc discus do not worry about lowering your ph just try to keep the ph tsable and the discus will be fine there as hard as guppys now .

get a reverse osmosis unit :D
i have both r/o-d/i units and it does absolutely nothing for the hardness of the water, our water here is so hard you can almost chew it, the units do however relieve some of the alkalinity.

Unless you plan on wild caught discus, there is no need to alter the water from your tap. Most discus today are raised in higher pH. Water hardness only comes into play when breeding them.
