i have an old tank laying around but its got an awful hard water stain on it. normally i can get rid of them by either a scraper, vinegar or both but this one wont go away. its very thin, i can see through it, but no amount of vinegar will do anything and nor will a scraper. i remember a thread was posted a while back similar to this, and someone recommended a product, but i can't find it. anyone? thanks!

Wear a good respirator or do it outside, man. Acetone will straight up murder you. My friend worked with three idiots who huffed the stuff out of a barrel a few times. Within the next six months, all three of those fools keeled over dead at random. There were no other common ties and the deaths were all attributed to heart failure.

I'd try CLR before acetone since acetone can strip silicone.

I'm too worried about the silicone since its going to be a terrarium anyways. So should I just rub the stuff on with an old rag and scrape or something?

that sounds good. just put some on a rag and rub it on. let it sit for a few moments to give it a chance to eat at the water stain. for best results id recommend applying it more than once. as long as you dont apply it to silicon it wont eat it. and if its going to be a terrarium you shouldmnt have anything to worry about. good luck and remember to rinse, rinse, rinse any time u use any thing like a chemical on your pets homes.

just tried, and it did absolutely nothing. i rubbed it on, nothing happened, tried scraping too and still nothing. rubbed some more, still.... nothing.

You sure it's mineral deposit? Try PH down on it. If that doesn't get rid of it...it's the devil.
