Ok its been a few weeks and im starting to notice that hardly any replies on any of my threads yet on the thread
smallest snake in length for a beginner keeper started yesterday has already gotten 18 replies already where as my thread Community Catfish started 4 days ago only has 4 replies three by myself. Anyone know why im not getting hardly any replies?

I was just wondering about something similar to this earlier today. I was looking at my list of threads created and early on I got very few replies, but in the last month or so, the amount of responses have exploded. I've had 2 threads in the last week get over 50 responses in less than a day, which is actually really unusual, but most of mine now average about 30 replies compared to like 7 or 8 before.

This makes me think that the more you recognize the name, the more likely you are to open the thread and read it, thus resulting in more responses. Your new to the site so if my theory is correct, its because most members don't recognize your name.

The other thread hasn't had many more replies because the question was answered. If you had more questions or wanted other recommendations, I guess you could ask about specific ones. The biggest problem on your other thread would be the temperature range for the selected fish. Also, goldfish tend to get very large and produce large amounts of waste compared to the size of the fish. I think catfish also follow this same route. So adding more heavy polluters to that tank would seem to be a bad idea in the first place.

It might be because MFK is a wasteland and no one goes on it anymore. There's more people on it that want answers then there are that want to help.

It's not like it used to be. For instance: Ive had my fare share of infractions, but I just got infracted for calling someone retarded on another thread.
That would cause me to leave if I weren't so bored all of the time. I mean, if you can't call someone thats being an idiot a retard on the internet, why bother...

I keep hearing about all the traffic on this board and others being reduced. I find that hard to believe. I guess maybe fewer people have the disposable income with the recession to spend on tanks and rare fish. I used to answer lots of piranha questions, but the questions are so predictable and the regulars there know their stuff so well that it's really not necessary. Plus I have gotten infractions too for telling people that their advice is the diametric opposite of correct fishkeeping. I got reported even though I was right, and just because someone was offended i lose out. WTF....

MFK is growing in leaps and bounds.. just take a look at the intro forum and you will see how many introduce themselves everyday... so many don't introduce themselves but are active too .. so i do know that mfk is growing like a weed.. i think we can all agree that good advice to mfk members is always wanted and needed and appreciated... it does not go out of style.. if you get tired of answering the same old questions then let someone else take over.. but if you see something that you can help someone with why not help them.. we are one big family of mfk members.. good for one is good for all.. as far as infractions ... if you have a complaint where you feel your infraction was unjust... report it..do not discuss it on an open forum.. or yes you will be considered someone who is against the TOS rules set out for all of us to follow.

yeah thats what I thought I see new folks all the time. That's why I thought what I was reading/hearing was kind of strange. Anyway, I haven't had an infract in quite a while. I harbor no ill feelings. I did actually talk to the mod who gave it to me and it was sort of like talking to a stone wall. Oh well. Like I said...no worries. Just commenting on the previous posters comment. I still pitch in occasionally with ID's of serras and what not...

Summer time is slower due to the nice weather outside, but it is your threads. If you stop getting responses it is because people fell you have the answers you need. Try asking additional questions or ask for clarification. Once you are on the site more you learn how to ask better questions and how to get more responses by asking better questions with more information. This is why as you spend more on the site, more people respond.

I'm not complaining about my infraction. I honestly don't care if I get them. This is the internet.
