I have a different problem with my floor. In some spots the wood seems to swell up a little and come to a point.I had no idea what the cause was until someone told me it was from moisture...These spots are on the main floor if the house and all of my tanks are in the basement underneath so I'm guessing that they must be causing the moisture.
If your basement is unfinished you could put some vapor barrier on the ceiling.

Yes,it pretty much is unfinished. Its got concrete walls with exposed beams and joists overhead...Thanks for the idea,Dan

There is a mat that was covering the floor but the water seemed to have been absorbed by the hardwood by the time it was discovered.

My 220 exploded on my vintage hardwood floors. I had to pay a group of men a large sum of money to save them. But it worked. My floors are amazing and unless I told people they would never know. I am 100% sure if I dried them to the best of my abilities and hoped for the best they would have been ruined.

I know i'm late to this thread, but something similar happened to me... except i quick wiped up the water, and then turned on my dehumidifier over night, and placed a fan blowing directly over the effected area to dry it out as quick as possible... luckily for me no damage was caused, but was a close call...
