i posted this before in the hybrid section and really didnt get enough answers... i know you guys know your plecos:D

i wanted to add a pleco in my female flowerhorn tank, but im im afraid she might muder it overnight LOL any hardy plecos out there that would stand its ground and eventually live in harmony with my female FH?? i was thinking, maybe get a a pleco ALOT bigger than her...but that would kinda ruin the whole point of having a flowerhorn tank right? oh and btw no decor or what so ever, just sand as substrate:D

PS my flowerhorn is so agresive that i couldnt even put my finger in the tank or its gonna be her dinner lol

lol then what makes you think it will be happy to see a pleco in the tank? Is there a reason you want one in there? Personally I wouldn't bother, it wouldn't have a hiding place, might get killed by the FH, or even the other way around if it starts sucking on the slime coat when it sleeps. Certainly a lot of potential problems...

What size tank, also.

Most of the best tank cleaners are 6" and less, so I guess that's not what you've got in mind. I wouldn't go with any of the "commons" IME some are lazy buggers and you might end up with one that decides it's too good for common algae. I think you should brave it and use an algae scraper lol.

I would say your options are between an algae scrubber, and an algae scraper. No pleco will do well in that tank.

i have kept pleco with my flower horns and south americans and thye worked (or i got lucky) i went with a gibbiceps for eating the algae and for show the mighty adonis and scarlet pleco (l-025)

but in a 40 thats not going to work is it?

I've kept both common and BN plecos with FHs but they always had several places to hide. Without anyplace for the pleco to get away from the FH, I would say get a MagFloat and a long handled scrapper.

As this member points out, it isn't the type of pleco or the type of fish you have, but rather the lack of hiding places and the small tank.
