i have kept pleco with my flower horns and south americans and thye worked (or i got lucky) i went with a gibbiceps for eating the algae and for show the mighty adonis and scarlet pleco (l-025)

You got lucky that the gibbiceps is eating algae. Especially if yours is an adult or even sub adult.

Maybe this was mentioned, I'd search the net for a solid cheap aquarium that is 55 plus gallons.

That would solve your problems, most plecos will hide during the days and eat at night and with a larger aquarium and with a lot of hiding spots that the flowerhorn can't get into, you'll be fine.

Just my thoughts...

It isn't the tank size that is the problem here either. The lack of decor for the pleco to hide in is the problem.

And even then, to be honest you are relying that the pleco will stay out of site and hide away all day from the FH. Not the most idealistic of set ups.
