I have some sweet baby rays swimming around with nipped tails. ONLY thing in with them is a Harley Cat. Are these things nippers? Could he be the culprit for the white tail tips?

Or are my un btrustable flat fish being themselves? Have been watching the camera on the tank for days and have yet to see anything. Can anyone describe their Harley cat personalities? Sound like something this fish would be guilty of?

Thanks MFK!

Think K krichardson had some.

I had a Harlequin Lancer in my datnoid tank,it hid most of the time but would come out and cruise around at feeding times.I don't recall it being a nipper or even paying any attention at all to other fish....they have very small mouths.

The very small mouth is half the reason I was wondering about it being him/her - Its only the very tip of the rays tail - but mine sounds like a very similar temperment - comes out to scarf sinking carnivore then back to the driftwood.

Doesn't pay attention to the rays much but he sure seems to have no issue stealing food from them.... lol.

My dilema is I can move the cat but its either to a much more aggressive tank or tank full of younger rays so thought I'd ask about them before either letting him chew some more tail or having his tail chewed or worse.......

Thank for the response man! :)

No problem, gad to help in any small way and good to see you around.

We have had 7 from 2" to the current 6" with lots of tank mates. They behave as you two describe - hide all day, grab food and go back to hiding. IDK what they do at nights. As a first approx. I'd doubt your harlequins were doing this, unless perhaps you let them go hungry, or they are rogue, or they do something by night we don't see nor know.

In general, their temperament is quite peaceful, an exception in the Bagridae family.

If the rays are tiny and tasty and smaller than the cats, then this too might dampen my doubt.
