Ive had this fish for over a year and haven't been able to clear him of his parasites. Tried metro, pimafix, melafix, aquarium salt, epsos salt, parasitic fish food meds nothing seems to help. Water is perfect but I can't figure out how to get rid of this problem. I feel so bad for the little guy but I am thinking it is almost time to cull him since I have tried everything. Ive had him quarantined in a 10gallon since I have had him. His stomach just keeps getting larger but he still swims normal and eats like a pig. This is a regular shaped flowerhorn too not a shortbody. It is embarrassing posting him like this but I am running low on ideas. Its almost like he needs surgery or something. His stomach has been huge for months and continues to grow.

Hopefully someone can help me. I am thinking of putting him directly in the sun in some green water and feeding him rosies that I gutload on parasitic fish food meds. If any one has any ideas please share. Could it be genetics? Could he ever shrink back down to normal size or will he have stretch marks? I'm so confused never saw anything like this.

wow that is crazy...maybe its some kind of tumor?

I have thought it was dropsy for a while but it should have killed him by now. Being a flowerhorn I am not sure if it is genetics or what. If it is dropsy this is the worst case I have ever seen. It is just really weird because the fish is still really healthy. I wont give up on him though and don't have the balls to cull my fish unless I see them suffering.

try looking at fishpharmacy.com they helped me with some tough diagnosis:) good luck.

if you tried all those meds its mos likely not internal parasites. or at least not only... metro usually takes care of those. good luck man.

Already tried using Fenbendazole? If that doesn't work - try Oxytetracycline. Use Oxytetracycline with caution - do not have direct internal contact with them. And use the dosage properly - it can and will kill your fish if overdose slightly.
