I think it’s just cheap cichlids. Years ago I watched a YouTube open one and it was just some cheap looking Africans.
I feel like that’s a bad idea.
Would be a fun surprise, but you don’t know whether you’re walking out with a goby, cichlid, or arowana…all of which need very different setups.

Yeah, I agree. What a monumentally stupid and irresponsible idea. You get your fish home and they turn out to be something you can't possibly hope to house for a whole host of reasons.
I hope they have a watertight returns policy.
Me too. Someone could be expecting a couple bucktooth tetras but get a couple of paroon sharks, for example.
I’ve seen some videos where they ordered mystery boxes from the dark web and got shark eggs and barracuda but I’m not messing with the dark web lol

It may be something cool if you bought a mystery box from a member on here for fish that will be in a certain tank, or a generalization of what you want.
Yeah. If the options are constrained for fish you can feasibly house and are interested in, it becomes fun.
It’s cool when vendors do it with plants or coral, though it’s usually cheap stuff.
