Has anyone bred Mini marbles?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So, your saying that adult size and age of maturity have nothing to do with each other? Pretty bold statement there. Take the average size that a given species of ray matures and compare that to average max size and you don't see a relation? We all know there's always exceptions but we're talking "average"

So.... Your saying if the average human is 5'4 then in order for a midget to be a midget they can't be over 22" (3 times as small) tall?

Can we all agree that midgets are roughly have the size of average humans or just slightly smaller then "small" people?

Anyone ever thought to themselves "I wonder if they call them midget Marbles cause they're roughly half the size of average Marbles?"

I know one things for sure..... I feel bad for midgets. I wonder if midget people had as many disbelievers as these rays do?

I really don't understand why this subject always has so much debate. Don't believe? Go buy one that fits the description of what we call midgets and grow it up to normal size. Make people look foolish. Hell, I'm on like year 4 of it and can't seem to disprove it so maybe someone else should try. :irked:

so your saying that the age of maturity * IS * the adult size of a ray ? thats a pretty bold statement to make yourself with no evidence to back it up.

i didnt say the average human height was anything at all but after a quick wiki the average human height in england in the mid nineteenth centuray was 5 ft 8 in or 1.73 meters .

i did say however that " i think to be coined a mini ray it would have to be at the very least a third smaller than regular adults of the same sex "

so in humans (as is your example) that would mean that a person of under 1.154m would be considered smaller than average

you mention midget humans alot in your reply but i did not mention midget humans or even midget rays in my original statement. . . mini marbles was the term that i offered my opinion on - just thought i would point that out .

unfortunately there were no human "midgets" available at the time of purchase, so instead i used one of the "midget" marble rays that i have for comparison and will happily offer information ragarding their growth.

btw when i got my first ray there was no internet and no information other than the books that said basically , you have no chance. it was only around 2007 that i actually found the internet helpfull and started to make progress in ray keeping.

There are "mini" humans...called midgets or little people..

That's a genetic defect

Captive bred rays seam to grow bigger and faster than wild caught

I have only had 4 marbles in my time only one I would class as a good grade one

As for coming in fully rolled retics were coming in like this a few years back and people were classing them as dwarf retics

I don't think the term dwarf or mini should be use as it gives people the wrong idea and it will be fine to keep them in a 4x2 for life

If you get a few small ones great if they grow big will you be disappointed that you may need to get a larger tank in the future

If you just take it that they will get to the max size stated for a marble and you provide tank space for a stand size marble then you won't go far wrong

I have alway stated my thoughts on this to aquaman and will always stick to my guns unless someone can prove this so called mini is type of rays

That's the last I will say on thing

One last thing before I go

We have all known for years that marbles stay smaller than normal motoro

So why now have people started calling them mini marbles

This is a joke you are now sizing marbles like apples small medium and large

Unless you can prove this is a totally new type of motoro then you may as well leave it
If you can prove it the you can label it the DB or VS marble

This is only the second time I have seen any type of ray tagged with the term mini or dwarf

You never see mini p14 or mini Leo or mini tiger rays

I don't get excited when someone has a big ray so having small rays still won't get me excited

You seem much more excited then I am over this "mini/midget" term....

It doesn't matter to me what size they get, I'm prepeared to properly house them in the event they get up into the 2' neighborhood like my big girl was. I've kept Marbles for a while now, share what I've found, what I've seen, and that's really it. I find it kind of odd that they don't seem to get big but if that bothers people I don't know what to say.... Sorry? lol.

You don't have to believe, or even acknowledge them, it's really not a big deal. :)

Maybe we should call them Chupacabre Marbles from now on? Mini Jackalope? Unicorbles? Really doesn't matter cause in the end they're just dirty brown rays.... :(

i think the size thing is more important to a member with 3-4 rays in a 125 maybe they want to convince themselfs they will stay small

Oh they will stay small whether they like it or not. We have a lfs not far away that has kept about 5 bd/leos in a 150 for just about 3 years. They are 6" in disc size. I have one from the same batch and it's about 14". Living proof you can stunt your rays if you feed them not enough food and keep them in a small tank. The tank they have has a big rock ornament and the rays barely have enough room to swim around it. When I go back to the store I will take the pictures for proof.

wow so we can all have mini rays of any type im going to down side with my next pups to keep them small

joke aside tank size does keep them smaller is it right thats another ?

the leos in this shop must have fully rolled claspers if they are 3 years old

Actually it has stunted them in every way. These rays won't be breeding any time soon. I will be surprised if they live a happy long life. The pet store has taken them off "For sale". They said when the kids come in for tours of the pet store they love the small black rays so they aren't really for sale anymore as they are a attraction for the school tours now! Hence they feed them less and keep them in a small tank so they don't grow big and disappoint the kiddies!
I don't agree with what they are doing but then they aren't my rays nor my pet store.

please take pic.
sounds a bit bad , but I really want to see these stunted rays.

its been said loads that pet stores dont feed their fish as a hobbyist would. not feeding enough means they are keeping them alive rather than feeding them enough to grow. i wouldnt be suprised if they have rolled claspers either but it would be nice to see pics and see what they are like after 3 years.

shame someone on here cant buy them and update on how they grow after being fed properly.
