I think we're forgetting about some very real health risks here. A lot of aquarium chemicals that we all use such as de-chlorinator, and various medications are toxic to humans. In fact, most of them have a health warning on the sides i.e. do not use for fish for human consumption.

There's also the fact that your fish died of natural causes, which says to me that something was very wrong (even if it was old age). Really, you'd be eating a fish who's organs had decayed to the point where they couldn't function any longer, so it wouldn't be very pleasant anyway. Plus the fact that aquarium fish don't get much exercise, and hence, would have quite poor muscle tone compared to wild fish, so the texture and flavour would be a bit off.

Bottom line, don't eat it, not for pleasure, nor for your own health.

Beat me to it :(

I wouldn't eat anything out of an a aquarium. As for Aros, they're more bony than meaty.
If you want meat, look into an Oscar. I hear Oscars are in the menus down south Lol Grrrroossss!

I have eaten Oscar down in Florida(was told it was something else)kinda tasted like Pollock, not to fishy pretty good actually.:headbang2

I would think it would be something similar to Carp. When I cook carp I use a stick and when it's nice and black I toss the carp off and eat the stick.:D

i've heard of people die of eating the fish they loved in the aquarium...... too many chemicals throughout it's life

I always wondered what arowana as well as oscar would taste like, but I'm not a big fan of seafood. I also wouldn't have the heart to eat my own fish so if I was to ever try them, it would be someone else's pet and would only be a bite.

I would not eat anything out of pet aquarium ...unless you have been skipping on chemicals. Having said that Arapaima are supposed to be pretty good. Pacus and Oscars too. There is a video on Youtube about a guy preparing his red arowana (which died of natural causes of course).

Personnally, i would not eat one of mine but i do eat fish
