Amazing! I would love to have one for a pet, but I dont think I could give it the proper care and attention it deserved.

Anybody know of thier behavior or personalities? I imagine them kinda like ferrets, HIGH energy and all over the place...lol

Howdy,

I honestly have to say that these are the cutest little guys ever.

Nice pics, they seem to really have a friendly personality. Seem to be more than just pets, they seem to be little companions and furry friends. More pics, please! I've never had a sugar glider, but there is no doubt in my mind that they are a lot of fun.

Please pass on congrats to the lucky one who can call these fellows friends. Very nice of you to post and share, thank you Liz.

actually they are kind of the opposite, they can be pretty shy and would really love nothing more than to cuddle in your hoody like already shown, thats actually how you socialize them to you when you first get them, you pretty much have to carry them around in a little pouch that hangs on you for like two weeks, so they get to know you smell and everything, also they are nocturnal so pretty much sleep all day but will come out and play if you wake them lol, but yeah in order to stay nice they do require alot of handling they can get nippy if not handled frequently

They're omnivores with fairly complex dietary needs. In the wild they feed on saps, nectars, and invertebrates. In captivity, they often require supplimentation to have their needs met. Varied invertebrates, fruits, veggies, etc. should be offered daily, and a constantly available glider-specific staple is also suggested just to cover your bases. The zoo I volunteered at used to order some kind of plant nectar, but I don't know that it's readily available to the public; agave and honey are often substituted as a treat, I know. They can be tricky because they need a good deal of protien but low fat, and a good deal of natural fruit sugars, but not refined sugars.

Most of the premature deaths and illnesses in gliders stem to one of two things: poor diet, and unsanitary conditions.

Oh, and as for lifespan, it should be 10-15 years, but most will die in about half that time in captivity, sadly. We were lucky with ours for beginners; they had full lifespans.

They're very energetic little guys, need lots of time out and plenty to do IN their cage as well. But they do love snuggling and being carried around. Just don't have any fruity smelling shampoos or body sprays, I think my sister still has the scars to prove that one *laughs*

thanks.. i will pass this on to the owner..i appreciate it Lisa...

They are very cute it's just a shame that we can't keep them in my state. Oh well, I can just go catch their convergent evolutionized cousin the flying squirrel. :D

There is an exotic pet store here in Overland Park that sells them sometimes. Maybe gets 5 a year. They keep them in a huge cage with lots of fleece hammocks and nests. Cutest things ever. If I didn't have some of the world's smartest rats living in my Critter Nation cage, I'd probably have bought one when I was there last.
