Ok, after seeing an arowana pluck bugs from a branch I got this idea. Instead of a lid, a fine netting (fine enough for a large fish not to get tangled up in) going up the sides of your tank to the ceiling. This would allow your fish to jump, and if its angled out of the tank just bounce of the netting back down.

Just thought it would be cool to see an aro jump for food at home haha anyone think this would work?

hadn't thought of it ,but for people with big jumpers ..and the resources to do it ...it sounds like a good idea

Ive seen youtube vids of thai aro ponds with about 5' tall netting and they feed em crickets on a stick. Kinda like you are talking about. Also my lfs had a huge display about half full of water and it housed a couple huge silver aros

^ yup same idea! About to Google that, if I ever live anywhere warm enough for an aro pond totally doing the same thing haha

I might be able to get away with one climate wise with a decent heater, but with an eagle nest next door and MANY hawks, vultures, and other predatory birds and gators, I wouldnt bother with an outside pond.

And don't forget evaporation. I thought about it once but then I realized the water will evaporate at an annoying rate.

could do one out off wood with sliding doors, probably even keep a water dragon in there!-) it would help with drop eye too imo... im no expert but my opinion is drop eye is caused by bashing there eyes on tank lids!?

+1

Just build a big ass canopy! With a cheap thin glass/Plexiglas window

I built my canopy on my 210 out of wood and painted it/wired lighting all myself... I also made the canopy 2 foot tall so when my silver arowana is large enough to move in he can jump without damaging himself.. I am also gonna put padding on the bottom of the 2 braces in the middle of the tank trim. I cant wait!

I'd bump that up an extra couple feet man 2 feet is the length of the aro at one point, my red wolf jumped 3 feet at 7 inch he hit a poster on my wall so I saw the water on it and measured up, I was going to post a pic on here but the poster isn't exactly a good one to post part of haha. If a lil wolf can do that an aro will go much higher.

I've done the whole lidless thing before, it for sure evaporates faster but id rather have to add a bit of top water everyday/ make a drip then have a smashed up aro or hoplias wolf, plexiglass is a good idea, I'd be afraid of using thin glass just in case it gets whacked hard enough. My buddy brought up to me it would be cool to do a school of butterfly fish, then you may actually be able to see them glide
