Has anyone every had an ATF die from training off live?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dang when did u upgrade? Once they get around 8"-10" they will pretty much eat anything & with the temp being high they will grow fast. Most people think atfs are slow growers but if u power feed them everyday they grow quite fast. No one believed me that my old vatf grew from 8" to 16" in less then 7 months, fed him 5-7 times a day starting early in the morning. Also important to turn off the lights at night and let them get some sleep.

I finished my tank sometime last year. My build is in my sig.

The problem is I have some Tin foil barbs in the tank and they're ravenous. They steal most of the food but I put plenty in there so there's enough to go around. The Tins are already busting at the seams from eating so much so if I feed them even more they will explode!

When I do throw food in the tank it's a feeding frenzy and everyone eats except the GATF. All the VATF are swirling around munching but the GATF just hangs back and watches. So he's observed plenty of times to know it's food.

I've started raising the temp so it went up one degree.... probably cost me $20 bucks in electricity tho :shakehead

Its only been a week. My wolf fish went on hunger strike for a month once. Give it time.

There are big differences between wolf fish and African tiger fish. Hydrolycus and Hydrocynus eats small meal, several meal a day, every day, while Hoplias eats big meal, and can go off food for days or week

You may want to drain your tank, remove and separate the GATF into other tank to fatten it up. If it stays in that tank, it will get weaker due to unable to get food, eventually will die from hunger or taken out by the VATF, once it's too week to defense itself.

Well it ate a few blood worms today but still nothing substantial. I do notice that it hovers lower in the tank under the swarm of other fish so not much food drops past them. But then again if it really wants to eat it would be more aggressive. I've seen it go after rosys and it's very aggressive.
