Has anyone had issues with their female pbass beating up much larger males?

Are you sure it’s not breeding behavior? It is spring after all and maybe she’s ready and testing him out. Feed them well and try again

That was my intial thought, but with my experience its usaully the male that beats up on the female when wanting to spawn. She was beating up on him that bad he was trying to jump out of the tank

I’ve seen it both ways with males and females becoming aggressive during spawning so it’s hard to say without looking at the other behaviors like digging a pit and so on. But that’s crazy that the male was trying to jump out of the tank due to her aggression. I probably would have removed her as well if it was that bad.

Maybe they are rearranging their hierarchy like others mentioned but you said you’ve had them a while so that should have been settled a while ago unless you changed their environment drastically. It’s definitely perplexing...hope you get it figured out

So after 2 days of self isolation in the sump, i put the female back in the tank and she hasnt caused any issues as yet. When i first dropped her back in the male started acting all tough huffing and puffing and doing laps around her. I also noticed a couple of time the male will swim up past the driftwood and slap his body up against it... which is making me feel now maybe they are getting ready to spawn!

You might be in for a spawn then. Monoculus breed fairly easily compared to other peacocks. Good luck
