I've read that jars are so damn agressive. Has anyone had success with them in a community tank? Is it true that if they don't eat live they're less aggressive? I have a baby jar in a grow out tank and he's never had live. He's had only bloodworms and pellets. I plan on NEVER feeding him live. Is it possible that once he gets big enough, I can put him in a tank with datnoids and a blk aro?

some are aggressive some are not,u can put it with the datnoids but im not sure if u can keep it with a black aro

Right now my datnoid and blk aroare 10-11" I plan on introducing the jar ay maybe half their size to keep him in check. We shall see in a few months if it'll work

Ive had many. They are some mean SOB. but about 1 outa 10 turned out mellow. Some so much that a 11" i kept with 2" puffers. Ive never fed live to any. I have one 14"er in a big cichlid tank now. Hes mean but it works. I think you gota just try it and come in with the exspectation that if you gota get rid of him ull do it and start over

I have a jar he's 7in right now he's in a tank with a marble Goby bichir and a clown knives and they all get along great my jar does eat both live and pellet it seems like my bichir and jar work together when they are chasing live feeders around its cool to watch there are even times when they swim right next to each other just to be like "yea we got got'em" after getting a fish they have been together since they both were smaller then 3in so maybe growing them up with other fish makes jars less aggressive

Ages ago I had a jar in a community tank with bala sharks, clown loaches, a mixture of rainbow fish and a few cichlids (like jewel, rainbow) and some other small fish I forget.

The tank was about 200 gallons. I only ever fed pellets and frozen bloodworm. Also I first introduced the jar to the tank when he was less then 2 inches. So he grew up with his tankmates since being tiny.

It was ages ago, and it was a few years after this that I joined mfk and realized they had such a bad rep. I want another one but after reading all about their aggression do not want to risk it.

He looked real mean but never showed signs of aggression. Actually I lie, I remember he would sometimes chase my pleco around but that was it. (the pleco would chase him as well) the jar left all the small fish alone. Even the loaches would try to school with him.

Hi i have 2 big jars in different tank with other big and smaller fish they eat live and pellets but only pick on the bigger fish and leave the smaller ones alone keep them well feed and they will be fine good luck

I have a 7 inch or so Jardini in a 150g with a same size flag tail, 2 bichirs and 5 smaller clown loaches. No problems yet but he does stalk the clown loaches sometimes. I do notice he isnt really tempted with the bichirs or flagtails though.
