Haven't had it happen yet and it would piss me off because I wouldn't let it go and would have to find out the reason. And looking at yours tim ???????.

Pics from the necropsy by any chance? There are a lot of things to look for when cutting one open. The extra eyes on here might be able to help you pin point a problem.
Decreased liver/renal function is often a COD in FW rays. I've seen it happen a few times - and it can be tough to nail it down without a good look.
