has anyone ordered fish online??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeh, the shipping is def brutal... thats why i was wonderin if anyone knew a place where the costs were a bit more reasonable.. but i guess u get wat u pay for too

I have ordered from many different online sources, and never had a significant problem; I've literally had one fish that died out of maybe a couple dozen fish I've bought

here are some that I have bought from:

> Rapps (Tangledupincichlids.com)
> the Cichlid Broker (cichlidbroker.com)
> ThatPetPlace.com
> Arizona Aquatic Gardens (AZGardens.com)
> ****************
> Aquabid.com

I have had the best dealings with Rapps and the Cichlid Broker, but never any serious problems with anyone else.

best part about the Cichlid Broker is that he is relatively local for me, so shipping charges aren't too bad; you might want to try AZGardens.com if you are in San Diego

good stuff! if i have a fish shipped to iowa... how much u think thatll run for shipping?? im not sure if theres any vendors close by

there is yet another store I have bought from - - www.petsolutions.com - - that is located in Ohio, which I think is the closest one I am familiar with. unfortunately, I think they - - like many larger retailers - - used fixed charges for their live deliveries. you may want to shop around and find someone near you that will only charge you the actual S&H (look on www.aquabid.com)

one note on S&H charges: I once made a purchase of Rainbow cichlids - - from an individual, not a dealer - - and the seller convinced me to go with regular USPS Priority, which would take about 3 days but cost maybe 1/3 of what Fed-Ex or UPS would run. OK, fine . . . well, it took the fish five days to get to Florida (from Colorado), and then the USPS delivery guy DID NOT leave them on my doorstep but instead was going to take them back to the USPS facility, on a Friday afternoon . . . so I wouldn't get them until Monday, which would have been 8 days in transit!

amazingly, the guy working at the Post Office facility understood the dilemna, and he got the driver on the phone and got him to go back to my house and leave the fish . . . whew!

even after 5 day in transit, all four Rainbows were absolutely fine, but I still wouldn't want to go through that again.

so, measure the delivery charges against a) the availability of fish in your area, and b) your desire to have fish delivered promptly and safely

Ive only ordered from finsnthings. The shipping was free! and the fish got here fine and the packaging was great, the motas I got were also very cheap.

that sounded pretty cool, but when I went to their site the selection was really small . . . does it change often?

since it is summertime with very hot temps in most parts of the country, you have to be careful with shipping of any live aquaria right now. this should be kept in mind since even if the seller is awesome, depending upon the shipping journey, you could have mixed results this time of year

IME, most live-shippers take the seasons into consideration; they will add a hot-pack in winter, a cool-pack in summer . . . some of them will charge an extra few $$$ for this, some won't

this has caused problems for me, because I am in Florida . . . I have had fish delivered in winter time, and the shipper adds a hot-pack; well, in Florida it can be 80+ degrees in winter, so you have to make sure to get the fish out of that box a.s.a.p. or they could get cooked . . .
