I think they are abusing their prescriptions.

If you are talking about Rotenone then I agree it is used times when it is not the best solution to the problem, but to say it doesn't work is just plain wrong.

Why don't they draw down the water level around the time the pike spawn. This will do three things, one there will not be suitable habitat for them to spawn in due to the fact they like to spawn in super shallow weedy areas, also it would dry up the eggs and fry that already happend to have hatched, third it really does not allow for the plants to grow. I know there are studys that show that pike do not do will in reservoirs with fluctuating water levels for this reason.

Another thing that might help is to hire comerical fisherman to net them. I know the state is already doing that but the comerical guys would prob have more equipment and be alittle better at it. They do have a history of crasing popluations of fish world wide.

The final thing is place a bounty on every fish. Again I know they are doing it for tagged fish but why not pay $5-$10 per fish. This would probly get more people to fish for them. This has been used to great effect on Lake Pend Oreille to remove the non native Lake Trout.

that can work, but...one problem...where is the water going to go to??? LOL
that idea has already been sorted out by the department of fish and game here, not a good choice to make...

commercial fisherman, not going to work either my friend...fish and game already try netting them, thousands and thousands of them...still useless. I think fish and game have more netting power than commercial fisherman.

But talking about paying people $5-$10 a fish to get people to fish for them...geez, thats going to cost millions of dollars giving out to people LOL!

Not sure how the stocking system goes for your guys state, but as I been talking and been around Fish and Game here, they count their fish before loading it into the tank on the truck and stock it into lakes or ponds. They don't just net them and dump it in the tank on the truck without counting. And by counting, they will sort through each fish before letting them through the tube into the tank. And im pretty sure juvy pike and bass/trout are way different.

And also...since when it needs to be native to have an ecosystem??? if you put it in that way, every single lake does not have an ecosystem then, you really think every there's a lake in the nation that is all pure natives???...you tell me. :D

Just saying that fish that are capable of wiping out the ecosystem (e.g. a pike) that had been there long before the pike had and the "natives" or fish that were wanted in the lake should stay there. But no lake is pure native, just people consider the long time fish residents of the lakes to be native, if you know what I mean.

Sadly, it is common in the hatchery to missed out some pike juvie or miscount the stocked fry before release into the lake, no matter in what state.

Just let this thread die because what it get us anywhere? Just accept the pikes, darn it!

I looked at the california fish and game website and they only talked about draining the entire lake, not just part of it. I would assume that the water would go down the stream/river that was damed up to make the lake. Just as a point here in Stevens Point, Wisconsin this summer they dropped the section of the Wisconsin River 9 feet. That would be more then enough to take out most of the pikes spawning habitat.

As far as the second goes why not have fish and game and comerical guys doing it. That way you get more nets in the water. I know states imploy this. And like i said earlier comerical guys are damn good at there jobs. Here they

And the idea of a bounty doesnt have to be money but some other incentive to get the fishing mortality up. Ive heard of states giving out lottery tickets for fish.

Its plain and simple you need to kill more fish then are being recruited by any means. So maybe its a combination of all of them plus more. But what they have been trying isnt working so maybe they need to try something drastic or accept the fact that there will always be large amouts of pike and move on.

true...but the state is worried that the pike might break through into river systems and out into the delta, then thats a real BIG problem.
