I have a couple of pairs of Koi Angels that have laid eggs 3 times and every time they have eaten the eggs. They are in a divided 55 gallon tank with 2 AC110s in it with sponge pre filters over the intake tubes. I have set up a spare 20 gallon tank I intend on hatching the eggs away from the parents next time they lay eggs. I have an AC70 hang on back filter on the 20 that I put a pre filter sponge on intake tube. Question I have is when I do take the eggs and put them in the 20 to hatch do I also take one of the pre filter sponges off one of the 110s in the 55 and put it in the 20? Or do I take the media along with the pre filter sponge out of one of the 110s and transfer that to the 20? I just want to make sure there will be some good bacteria transferred to the tank the eggs and hopefully the fry will be in.

I would personally transfer the media to the 20 gallon along with the prefilter but leave either the sponge or Biomax in the 110 until you replace.

So move both, the pre filter and media from one AC 110(on the 55 gallon)to the 20 when I move eggs? Put new media and pre filter on the AC110 in the 55. The other AC110 on the 55 will take care of the bio in that tank?

I’d fill that 20 gal with water from where the eggs came from and run the ac70 in the 55 gal as well...until eggs are ready to move, leave 20 gal empty.

Pair laid eggs. I watched them do their thing. Felt bad removing the slate eggs were on,but I want to get some fry from these guys. This pair is in a community tank and they have eaten their eggs 3 times already. I actually saw them eat them. I put eggs along with filter media from their tank in a set up 20 gallon tank. Temperature is the same as the tank they were taken from.I have an air stone on ,with the bubbles almost on top of the eggs. I didn’t put any antifungal stuff in it. Should take 3 days to hatch?
