Just set it up while she's gone, and when she gets home have some jewelry or a certificate for a spa day or something waiting for her.

hahah i think all wives enjoy seeing us suffer. i say you tell her that it would be a huge attraction to the rest of the family and would be a good conversation peice, you could also call whatever you get an early christmas present instead of getting it on christmas day. lol IMHO you screwed yourself over by calling the 55 an early present. it doesnt seem like money is the issue here so go and set it up while she is gone and buy her something nice....or just suck it up and be romantic with something idk?
Hmmmm. Buy her somthing or romance........ What do you suggest I buy. Besides if I told her I wanted to attract my in-laws she would know for sure I was lieing.
i think you need to buy her something very thoughtful, it should be something like a nice spa day, tell her its because she works so hard and she deserves a break when really your getting the break if you know what i mean. she could go off for the day and you can set up your tank and she will come back all relaxed and in to much of a good mood to be upset at you. or do what i always do and set it up at a time where she is really busy, too busy to deal with you and she will forget about it although i have to warn you this plan can backfire and very very horribly. you'll be in the dog house for weeks. you could also get her involved by taking her to the LFS and letting her choose a couple fish {they dont have to be big or nice-hell they dont even need to survive the month} this will allow her to feel involved and can't talk or complain. you could also claim that the silicone bonds will break if the tank is allowed to stand in the air for too long and could result in a major costly leak {this one has a huge succes rate}.

I like #5.I think you should wait until Christmas like you agreed too. You will be stronger and your wife will gain even more respect for you as you display integrity.... doing what you said you would do.
