Have internet forums made people lazy?

The best way to get answers is to read articles. If you want varying answers and not know what to do. Use a forum.

I think you're right that this is true for many facets of life, not just internet forums and/or fishkeeping.

"We live in a society exquisetly dependant on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology." - Carl Sagan

Yea, but IMO this kind of laziness is going to screw a lot of us up. In this age, its not only "dont believe everything you read" now you cant even believe your own eyes half of the time, and this is where people think they are doing their research. Factor in all the popularity contests most things come down to, plain misinformation, propaganda, it just gets ugly.

lmao, good one!

i don't care if people don't know WHY or HOW something works. you're all welcome to go back to the stone age if you'd like though. life is about the abilty to solve problems, if it means the internet becomes a help desk to help you solve your problems then so be it. it's not like when you're on your death bed you're gonna wish you knew every lil thing about filtration, cycling, latin names for fish etc etc

Some people are lazy, because they are lazy. Not the Internet, anything, or anyone can make a person lazy

nope, people were lazy before the internet, now it's just quicker. I think you assume much thinking people understood things any better before going online.

personally I don't care either. but knowing how and why to cycle a tank are nearly 2 differrent things. How many threads do we witness monthly where people are doing the 30 day shuffle? It gets kind of redundant.

true but it keeps these forums alive and gives "new helpers" an opportunity to help members. i just don't respond unless someones giving bad advice. i'm sure alot of "experienced" or "been around the mfk block a few times" members do the same. it's not in all of our personalities to be like liz and want to help everyone every single time. most of us joined because we were seeking something (knowledge, the buy/sell section or the need to show off your stock), not because we wanted to be helpers.
