I think you're right that this is true for many facets of life, not just internet forums and/or fishkeeping.

Yea, but IMO this kind of laziness is going to screw a lot of us up. In this age, its not only "dont believe everything you read" now you cant even believe your own eyes half of the time, and this is where people think they are doing their research. Factor in all the popularity contests most things come down to, plain misinformation, propaganda, it just gets ugly.

i don't care if people don't know WHY or HOW something works. you're all welcome to go back to the stone age if you'd like though. life is about the abilty to solve problems, if it means the internet becomes a help desk to help you solve your problems then so be it. it's not like when you're on your death bed you're gonna wish you knew every lil thing about filtration, cycling, latin names for fish etc etc
personally I don't care either. but knowing how and why to cycle a tank are nearly 2 differrent things. How many threads do we witness monthly where people are doing the 30 day shuffle? It gets kind of redundant.
