We always talk about how we get good deals in lfs because of the cluelessness of employees. That fh labled as a firemouth for 2.99, the 3.99 clown loaches labled as barbs ect. We have all done it and that employee that has no idea what a fish is sometimes saves us money. But who here has been cheated out of a fish because the employee was an idiot and insists a fish cost twice as much because they think its something else. Case in point an incident that just happened to me. At my local petsmart for 3 months there has been a 2" "red texas" in the tank next to the empty red texas tank. Ive always looked at it but its all gray ugly as sin so ive always ignored it. Ive asked about it twice and theyve always said it was a red texas for 5.99. So today i go and i notice little guy is peeling. Half of it was very pale orange so i was like cool so i ask for it. New dude comes along says its the $27 fh. I told him i was told twice before it was a red texas. He said no thats the flowerhorn (mind you the tank labled fh was empty 3 tanks away) he claimed he was there because they dont put their flowerhorns together. So i angrily walked out there without my little guy. :( so has this happened to any of you? Share your cheated stories.

Yea I had them happen with a 3" indo datnoid. Guy wanted $60 for it because it was "high quality". Granted it was super stable but that doesn't make it twice the price.

Its happened to me a while back I was looking for festaes and was in the bronx visiting my mom so I decided to stop at the petland discounts around her area and found one had "red terrors" so I went to the employee and asked if they were true festaes or mayans. He looked dumbfonded at first then asked his manager which I already knew she has no real knowledge of fish. She said to her employee that they were so I got 4. Toke them home to later find out they were actually mayans. So it was a waste of $30. then later I went back to the same store told them that they were mislabeled and I told the manager they were mayans and showed pics of festaes. She gave me my money back but till this day they are still label red terrors.

Well this might not count and to this day I haven't put up an id thread to make sure but I paid 25$ for a cuckoo catfish and I'm 70% positive its a hybrid. I also bought a cuckoo labeled as petricola for 6$ from the same store so I'm not complaining.

Well not really cheated. Ok maybe the second time.

Ok well I've been on a month long search for figure 8 puffer fish and my LFS claimed they would order some for me (I didn't pay them yet) and they told me to call next week on Wednesday (their delivery day.) So I call on Wednesday and they said they didn't have it and they told me to call the next day. I did and they said they didn't have it and told me to call next week. I did and sure enough they told me they don't have it. Soon it turned into a pattern until the staff at the LFS told me THEY were getting annoyed (yeah like I wasn't already) and they told me not to bother them again.

Then I went on reefs2go.com and ordered my puffer online and it never came after a week of being delayed by the site. I was refunded and left without my fish.

So yes to this day I never got that damn fish even though I cycled and set up the tank and everything

I once was short one feeder fish by petco. I paid for 20 but when i got home and counted them it turned out to be only 19. made me soooo angry....

You only get cheated because of YOUR lack of knowledge. Buyer beware... Mind you, if your WILLING to pay them that much for the fish and you do is it truly being cheated ?
