Some idiot at one of my LFS charged me $60 for a 10'' vieja synspilum. He said it would work great in a 35 gallon with a severum(that was a long time ago). I didnt know any better so i bought it. It killed a fish, injured my severum so i brought it back. He only gave me $40 for it, and it wrecked my community.

This is embarassing but I'll post anyway. This didn't happen to me but was my fault since I know both species of fish well.. anyway, I was with a friend at Pet Supermarket & he was looking at the fish & they happened to have a rummynose label on a tank. I glanced at it & am like yeah those are rummys, so he buys all of them, 6 in total. Later on that night after inspecting them closer found out they were actually White Clouds. Took them back the next day & he got 10 blacklined penguin fish, which weren't labeled either. Got them pretty cheap too. But yeah a noob mistake, saddened me since I know my fish & don't understand how I could have confused the two species.. lol I blame being tired.
Personally though I've never been cheated but have gotten some fish cheap like the lionchu I had, 1$ ottos mislabeled as danios, various species of fancy goldfish labeled as commons & a leopard sailfin pleco sold as a common.
