Have you ever caught a really really really really big fish and...

You fight it, screaming "LORD PLEASE STAY ON!"

Land it by practically diving into the water, soaking you fishing shirt and watch and whatever.

Everything in the boat goes flying...

take a pic and release it, all the while screaming YES YES, plumping your fist in the air.

then the adrenalin begins to slow from surging through your body,

and your legs feel weak,

Then you sit and take of your hat, and you stare at your lure and feel the line leading up to it,

then you say oh my God, over and over. and shake your head with a huge smile.

then you try and stand to start fishing again, but you cant...

and you stare off into the horizon, and shake your head and say oh my God again and again.

If your with someone else, you ask "can you believe that?" "did that just happen".

If your alone, you sit again and drink some water and reflect again on what just happened.

as the the adrenalin finally stops flowing, you take a deep breath, pick up your rod and start fishing again. And you think about stopping fishing for the day because it doesn't get better than that?

happen to you?

Awww. Reading this in the context of your boat failure story actually makes me really sad. I know you're relating a positive experience but I feel bad that you're potentially missing out on this now.

yup. Don't feel bad though. I'll be back in a couple of seasons. Till then, the shore will do I suppose.

i've almost caught a 6 inch yellow perch with the same reaction.

I had been trying for years to catch an eel back at my stream and had failed many times until one night I felt something tugging on my line.. I let it tug some more and set the hook. I started reeling in and it was fighting like a log so I thought it was one of three things. A log, a turtle, or possibly an eel. I pull out a 22" American eel and started screaming on my god! And I can't believe it! I ran back to my house with it on the rod screaming and when I got back my family had thought I was hurt because I was screaming so much and on the verge of tears from happiness. I was out of breath which is odd for me because I am in pretty good shape, but adrenaline took a hold of me and I was huffing and puffing and I felt my heart beat pounding through my chest. I went back out the next day to catch sunnies, chub, and little bass and it just wasn't the same. So yes I completely understand your feeling.ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1344889173.638461.jpg

All of the times this season that I have found myself hooked into a big fish hoping it was gonna stay on have resulted in loosing the fish while landing it or almost to me. Happened 3 times so far this season with the most recent this past friday. I've been the king of the small fellas.

I hear that! I can say i've lost MONSTERS that i've hooked that just wont stay on.

Disappointment at its finest!

Yes, all of the above has happened to me when my father and i caught and released (4) 5+ pound smallmouth bass we caught on our annual trip to Lake Champlain, VT. I was feeling great until i went to take the film to get developed only to then realize there was none in the camera. AHHHHHH! I guess its just another fish tale after all. Oh well it was a great trip anyway and that was some years ago. Stupid me.

Yup landed this Bull Drum then minutes later caught a stingray. Needless to say I wanted it of the hook ASAP to try and catch another Drum instead of getting it off the hook I got tagged in the forearm instead sending me to the hospital. Usually after catching a real big fish I get buck shot and my hands start to shake from the adrenaline.
