It has never happened to me yet ,touch wood , but the thought does go through my mind at times.I was just wondering how common it is and what are the main reasons.e.g. someone hitting the tank,silicone letting go,bad support etc.?????

It has happened to me several times.
Occassionally a bad bump during a drive while transporting some tanks can result in a cracked tank.
Once when I was filling a 10-gallon tank using a bucket, the bottom of the tank cracked and gave out, and I got soaked with 5 gallons of water. Don't know why that happened though. It wasn't an older tank.

It was in her way and she was pissed. That was like 25 years ago. It may sound like I have crappy luck, but that was over the course of a lifetime. Also, I have dealt with a lot of tanks. I have over 150 right now.
i was cleaning out a 20g in my bath room and was carrying it out the bathroom when it clipped the door frame someone i ended up with with the tip of my thumb sliced off and a gabbing hole in my thumb. Was a pretty deep cut as i can feel half my thumb now
