I am curious to see how many of us here at MFK have kept a solo fish before. feel free to elaborate on your poll response and get some discussion going.

I personally have been introduced to this idea and so far I am really enjoying it. Not many people seem to do this though and I am curious as to why.

I had an Oscar that killed his two roommates. I purchased 3 and two killed 1 and then those two fought alot but seemed relatively good with each other. I came home from school one day to find one of the two dead. It didnt ever seem to be that bad but I guess 1 just decided it was going to change. So I kept him solo for about 5 years was like a big water puppy.
Also at the end of my salt water stint I had an angler I kept after selling everything else off. I kept a tank a few soft corals and some equipment to keep him happy. I kept him for about 2 years alone also.

Any Flowerhorn I've kept previously (or currently in a 115g) has always been (happily) solo due to territorial/aggression issues. I have 2 X approx. 12" Arowanas each solo in their own 325 now. It's possible some day at least one of their tanks will get another couple of fish (Flagtail & Datnoid), but not in the near future, at this point I prefer they're solo.

I really want to get a flowerhorn. I’m thinking about getting one next weekend.

I had a huge Jaguar in a 125 for years. He was a beast and never bored me, piling gravel up to the top of his tank and threatening me all of the time. That is except when it was chow time. I had to fortify the heater for his own good. He was one crazy fish.

Puffers tend to be best kept solo but have tons of personality so makes up for the space needed for them...
