WOW! I have had plecos for quite some time since i was a little kid and never knew that. I feel bad now!

They always seemed healthy but that must be cause they were sneaking other fish food as well as the algae.

I am not much for cooking terms and food terms so what does "blanched" mean? do I have to cook the zucchini first?

Thanks!

Blanching is where you boil it for a few min, and then douse it in cold water suddenly. Doing this just allows the veggie to sink to the bottom so its easy for the pleco to get to. You dont have to do this, but I found it to be the easiest way to sink the veggies. Some people use clips, others will put a string throught the veggie and tie it off to somthing that will sink it. It may sound kind of a pain but once you see your pleco mauling the veggie you will know he appreciates it :D

My pleco loves squash (blanched) and shrimp. he will round up several shrimp and lay on them while he eats one so that the other fish dont get them.

These guys love their meat and veggies. My Frankie loved his shrimp.

Nice video! Yeah the pleco seems healthy but slightly underweight! Let him chew on some sinking pellets and vary his diet and he will become ugly real fast :)

I just bought two today, theyre only like an inh and a half, I got some huge ones in my canal, you can catch them by grabbing their bony tails, I caught one bout htta size today and wanted to keep him but he would have knocked down all my deco lol.

they remind me of whale sharks

That's when we had first got him. He filled out nicely, but they always stay more of that shape.
