Haven't posted in a while, here's a tank update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here's her history:
Got her about 2.5 yrs ago as a newly imported stressed 5-incher. Didn't eat for what seemed weeks, didn't think she was going to make it. Separated her via a divider (I didn't want to put her in a separate tank for ease of transition and seeing tankmates, getting used to them etc) and she finally started on ghost shrimp, then to nightcrawlers, market shrimp and silversides. I kept her separated for a few months until I felt she put on a lot of weight, then removed the divider. Since then she's being doing really well and growing rapidly, surpassing the Motoro and Blackies as far as disk. She won't touch pellets which is annoying.

I don't do anything in particular but have always believed in replicating their natural habitat with sand, driftwood, plants etc. Not sure if that has something to do with it. All my rays blow in the sand non-stop and try to dig under the wood/plants which I believe amuses them and keeps them happy. I can tell you she does bury herself more than the others, but only after eating, as if she's letting the food settle, after a few minutes she's at it again. She is also becoming aggressive towards the blackies during feeding, biting their disks wanting their food. She won't do it to the Motoro or the hybrid which is odd.

The tank is 600 gallons (8x4x2.5), on a drip at 4-5 gph, wet/dry filter with two 2400 GPH pumps, and a UV.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

Thanks for the comments!

Thanks Mike, I appreciate it. I think you should go for it. Stunning rays for sure, especially once they hit 12" or so.

Must agree with most.. that flower is a little beacon of hope.. it is possible.. i've always restrained from buying a flower out of respect, felt stupid to sentence it to a slow death..

Really nice setup and some great fish! Hat off to you sir!
