on my tank i seperated the layers with land scape fabric it seems to be working well for me so far then you can have plants where ever you want them not just at the back of the tank

I am thinking the fish will still dig it up.. my tanks have anywhere from 0 to 5 inches when the fish are done re-decorating..
Should work but if you have larger active fish or fish that like to transport gravel from one area to the next dont be suprised when its all messed up...are you planning different colors at the two levels? If so get used to picking out pieces on a daily basis. I put some gravel in a plastic container in my tank (Was removing the gravel and just to be safe put some back it to keep a little BB) and the container had over an inch of empty lip. The fish still managed to scatter it all over the tank.
same color... i was thinking about heating the plexi and then bending it to t he square-ish shape... the fish dont move gravel too much... i did something similar but the material i used was a lil sharp and a fish got a lil injured with a cut on his head... so i just wanted a better way to do it
