I need to buy a cable for the HDTV. I have seen HDMI cables for $30, and I have seen them for $150. What's the difference, and will I notice it?

The difference is really not too noticeable.....but the cheaper ones may not be made of a stronger covering material and are not made with more precision cut wires

I believe maybe the quality of the cable? But I'd like to know as well.

No difference at all. The same thing can be said of composite cables when compared to hdmi cable. Minute if at all.

Just get one and be done with it.

From my research into the matter, and after talking to several guys who work in the trade, the difference is in the construction of the cable and connectors. Cheaper cables break more easily, but if they're set up and left alone, there should not be any problems with breakage or wear and tear.

I use 7 dollar cables from a local superstore, and I have no complaints.

www.partsexpress.com sells decent quality cables for little money.

You will not notice a difference in the picture. Copper is copper....

I have heard there are different versions, and compatibility with newer technology may be an issue. Any insight into that?

no difference. if its for your cable box, get one for free from your local cable company. if not, the cheaper ones are fine. you wont notice any difference. you cant even tell the difference in picture quality between the HDMI and component cables; although there is a diffence in sound quality. i work for Comcast Cable and I see people waste money on HDMI cables all the time.

with my component cables, I was not able to get the full 1080 picture quality. After hooking up my HDMI to the tv and PS3 I had the option. The quality was noticable in my opinion so I dont agree with greenearthlawns. You should be fine with the cheaper HDMI cable tho. Good luck.

you dont need to spend loads on an hdmi cable. same principle as scart leads, the more expensive ones were gold plated to ensure less signal loss but the others that dont have gold worked just as well. go expensive if you like wasting money.
